History... Kente is one of the traditional cloths of the Ashanti people. For many years it was only worn by the King and the most important people in the Ashanti nation. Today, it is worn by many others. Kente is worn on joyful occasions. It's rich and colorful designs are symbolic to Ghana. The symbols of kente are mostly geometrical in shape.

Kente was invented by two men , Otaa Kraban and Kwaku Ameyaw, from a small town called Bonwire. The people of Bonwire believe the men learned the craft by oberving the way the spider weaves it's web. From one generation to another they passed down the tradition of teaching the sons of Bonwire to weave kente.
