History... The mmenson (horn blower) is made from the horns of an elephant. It is usually blown when there is a royal procession of chiefs, such as the Asantehene (King), and stool elders, who come out to receive the homage of their people during festivals like the Adae and Akwasidae celebrations. Carried in a decorative palanquin adorned with gold ornaments and shaded by traditional umbrellas, the royal procession is surrounded by dancers, drummers, praise singers and horn-blowers (mmenson), signifying their presence to the public.
